¡°2016 National College Students Moot Court Competition on Environmental Resources¡± sponsored jointly by IEEPA, the Supreme Peoples¡¯ Court Research Center for Environmental resources, All-China Environment Federation and Hohai University was held in Nanjing

On12th and 13th November 2016, ¡°2016 National College Students Moot Court Competition on Environmental Resources¡± sponsored jointly by IEEPA, the Supreme Peoples¡¯ Court Research Center for Environmental resources, All-China Environment Federation and Hohai University was held successfully in Nanjing Hohai University.

IEEPA Vice President Liu Keqin and judges, experts and lawyers in the field of environmental resources fully participated in the whole process of this competition, including planning, topic selection, judgment and grading.

This competition has gained help and support from ¡°Plan 2011¡± Collaborative Innovation Center of Judicial Civilization, Jiangsu Province High People's Court, Wuxi Intermediate people's court, Kunming Intermediate people's court, Yuxi Intermediate people's court, Yunnan Anning People's Court, Guizhou Qingzhen People's Court, Chongqing Wanzhou People's Court, Chongqing Yubei People's Court. Hohai University Law School hosted this competition, and 16 renowned universities, including Hohai University, Wuhan University, Ocean University of China, Shanghai University of Finance and economics, Chongqing University and East China University of Political Science and Law, took part in this competition.

Dean of Hohai University Law School and Doctor Supervisor, Professor Yang Chunfu presided the Opening Ceremony, and member of the national committee of CPPCC, Hohai University Vice-Chancellor and Doctor Supervisor, Professor Chen Xingying gave the welcoming remarks; the opening speech was delivered by Professor Wang Shuyi, Co-chairman of ¡°Plan 2011¡± Collaborative Innovation Center of Judicial Civilization, Secretary General of the Organizing Committee, Professor of Wuhan University Law School, Doctor Supervisor; the Judge of deputy director in the Supreme Peoples¡¯ Court Environmental Resources Division, Second Grade Judge Bi Dongsheng spoke on behalf of delegate judges of the competition. Hohai University, as a participating team, also gave the testimonial. At the end of the opening ceremony, all guests and participating teams had a group photo taken to mark the occasion

The competition consists of four sections, namely, selective trials, quarter finals, semi final and final. Judges of environmental courts from the Supreme Peoples¡¯ Court , Jiangsu Province High People's Court, Kunming Intermediate people's court, Xuzhou Intermediate people's court, Wuxi Intermediate people's court, Yuxi Intermediate people's court, People's Court and lawyers from four renowned law firms form the jury of the competition. At 9:30 am, sixteen teams were divided into four groups and the selective trials officially began. In the end, eight universities ¡ª¡ª Wuhan University, Chongqing University, Hohai University, Guizhou University, Southwest University of Science and Technology), Shandong University of Science and Technology, Kunming University of Science and Technology and Xiangtan University ¡ª¡ªentered the quarter finals.

The semi final started on 13th Nov; eight universities contested fiercely in the part of case facts, evidence questioning and court debate, showing profound legal knowledge background and excellent logical thinking ability. The final contest was between Wuhan University and Chongqing University. Xu Qianfei, Chief Justice of Jiangsu Province High People's Court, presided the chief judge of the final, which was extraordinarily exciting. Eventually, Chongqing University won the championship; Wuhan University won the second place. The third place was won by Shandong University of Science and Technology and Xiangtan University. Chief Justice, Xu qianfei gave a detailed comment and review about the competition.

IEEPA Vice President, Secretary General of 2016 National College Students Moot Court Competition on Environmental Resources Organizing Committee, General Liu Keqin delivered the closing remarks

This competition has distinctive features. The topics and subjects are modified and extracted from real-life cases. And all members of the jury are judges and lawyers who have worked in the field of environmental resources. It has combined the characteristics of moot court and debate competition, evaluating the participants¡¯ legal knowledge, the ability to apply knowledge to practice and the ability of expressing and logical reasoning. The competition provides an opportunity for students to combine theoretical knowledge and practical issues together, with profound practical significance and environment educational significance. As one of the sponsors, International Ecological Economy Promotion Association (IEEPA) participated actively in the event and promoted its progressing, which is a great support to public benefit activities and a promotion to environmental education.

This event is funded by IEEPA voluntarily, contributing our active effort to the cultivation of legal professionals specialized in environmental resources and construction of environmental protection spirit.
